Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano for some years has been committed to providing training opportunities by offering practical experience and internships in all its assets, thus allowing young people and schools to get to know the valuable history of Milan's Cathedral and develop new professional skills.
In January the Archives hosted three trainees from the Istituto “Marie Curie” in Cernusco sul Naviglio for a School/Work alternation project. For ten days, these young female students were given the opportunity to learn about the Veneranda Fabbrica, to experience working in an office environment and carry out archive work (description of payment orders in 1900-1902 and digital scanning of documents from the music fons).
The experience was judged to be entirely positive by both sides, and plans are currently being made to repeat it in April 2014.
On several days in February, the Archives also welcomed students from the Laboratory of New Technologies for Cultural Assets of the Cultural Heritage Studies course at Milan University. The Veneranda Fabbrica personnel working in the Archives and in the Museum accompanied the students in their discovery of the document fons, the collections and the activities conducted by them. This opportunity to find out facts was supplemented by a series of practical exercises, under the supervision of the Archive personnel, in which the students worked in close contact with the documents, photographs and material of the music fons, gaining first-hand experience of the use of applied technologies and rediscovering the full force of the important story of the Duomo and its Fabbrica.
