Ferrari endowment at the Milan Cathedral's Archive

Personality and activity of a great engineer in his documents

Charismatic figure who left a sign on the last seventy years of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano history, dott. ing. Carlo Ferrari da Passano left in the Archive an important mark of himself and his dense activity. A rich corpus of almost six hundred pages includes the many and various documentary typologies showing his activity, first as Director of the Technical Office – from 1961 – and then as Architect of the Fabbrica del Duomo – from 1967.
A role that brought him to conduct the restoration works of the lantern pillars and to follow other important interventions on the Cathedral, besides advices and projects related to churches and monuments in many other Italian and European cities.
The current system is the same originally designed by the engineer: each folder refers to a precise topic and includes notes, correspondence, newspaper articles, reports, technical drawings and photographs, all of which reflect his personal, precise and meticulous modus operandi. An endowment which is yet all to be explored, and which will certainly offer interesting tips for new studies and research.
