An unconventional procession

A photo from the Archive tells an historic event

In 1965, on the 4th November of fifty years ago, with a solemn procession through the streets of Milan, it concluded the ceremony of the IVth anniversary of the entrance of St. Charles Borromeo in the city.

The valuable crystal and silver urn – containing the remains of the saint – was exhibited in the Church of San Carlo al Corso from the 31st October to the 4th November. On that day, it was moved inside a special vehicle – made available by the municipality – properly decorated and equipped, so as to make the ark visible both from the side and from above, thanks to the tempered-glass covering.

In this shot, from the photo library of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, it was captured the stop in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, just before the return of the holy remains in the Duomo.
